Speechwriting

Emory University

As Emory University launched the public phase of their 2O36 Capital Campaign, they looked to Streetlamp Creative for speechwriting support. Through a series of events in 13 cities and 3 countries, Emory leaders and community members shared their Emory experiences and their  hopes for the university’s upcoming bicentennial. Working closely with Emory stakeholders – including members of the Board of Trustees, senior staff leadership, alumni, parents, and current students – we crafted meaningful speeches and thought-provoking panel remarks and questions. The goal was to help speakers share their unique, authentic stories in a way that provided a cohesive flow to the evenings. Our ongoing partnership helped Emory continue to forge strong community connections while raising funds to deepen Student Flourishing, Faculty Eminence, and Research Excellence.

“Coming from a small town in rural Arkansas, I was surrounded by very little diversity and representation of people who looked like me. As a result, I had become ashamed about certain aspects of myself.

At Emory, diversity is celebrated, and I learned to value what makes me different. I have a unique point of view to share as a daughter of immigrants, as a bilingual person, as a first generation college student, and simply as myself.

I’ve also broadened my own worldview by connecting with Emory peers from all backgrounds. I am eager to step into the next chapter of my life feeling assured in my knowledge and my sense of self.”

Recent Alumna, Emory University | Double Major in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology & Human Health, Class of 2023 | Boston, MA

As a student, one of my most formative experiences was sparked by a yearning for knowledge and discovery. During one Emory Scholars Weekend, a group of us decided to go see Halley’s Comet for the last time it would be visible in the U.S. during our lifetimes. Our mission involved a spur-of-the-moment midnight trip up Stone Mountain.

The experience reflected the spirit of curiosity, knowledge-seeking, and adventure that I will forever associate with Emory – and with my Scholar friends. I am grateful to be so deeply connected with a university whose values reflect my own.”

“It’s meaningful to hear our discussion tonight grounded in themes of equity and reducing disparities in cancer. Part of what drew me to Emory as a student was the university’s commitment to creating an inclusive, affirming environment.

During my senior year of high school, I attended an Emory weekend for accepted multicultural students. My student host and her friends ensured we all had a fun, informative time and introduced us to a welcoming, supportive Black community at Emory. That experience, plus the gorgeous spring campus, solidified my choice to attend!

Today, Emory activities and friends are integral parts of my life. I give back to Emory because I had such a positive experience. I’m also committed to ensuring the voices of Black students, and students of color, are recognized as integral parts of the Emory story.”

“At Emory, I also learned the importance of giving back through my internship at The Carter Center. As a partner of Emory, The Carter Center is on a mission to alleviate human suffering around the globe. My internship there was the first time I felt I had a real impact on something important… It was a transformative experience.

Most importantly, in our first-year dorm hall at Emory, I met the woman who would become my wife several years after graduation. I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for the ways in which Emory has, and continues to, enrich my life.”

“We are so grateful for the experiences and opportunities that Emory provided our children – both inside and outside the classroom – which is why we decided to make a significant gift and get more involved.

We feel passionate about giving back to a place that has given our family so much. Together with all of you – parents, alumni, leaders, and friends – we can empower students to flourish as they move through their academic journeys and into the lives they are building for themselves.”

“I’m thankful that my family instilled in me not only an appreciation for fine spirits – but a spirit of giving back, as well. Over the last few decades, supporting Student Flourishing at Emory has been a meaningful way to give back to a place that has enriched my life and career.

I’m honored to be here with all of you tonight to celebrate Emory… and to introduce the President of Emory University, Greg Fenves.“

Panel Question: “Dr. Fallin, as Dean of Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health, you bring a unique perspective on the intersections between AI and societal well-being. You have emphasized the connection between physical and mental health – as well as your belief that mental health is a key component of public health.

How can researchers and public health leaders harness the power of AI to improve the mental health of individuals – and society at large?”

Provost, Emory University | New York City, NY

Panel Question: Dr. Constantino, as one of the leading child psychiatrists in the country, you have noted that when it comes to mental health, there are many proven strategies and approaches that we actually know are effective!

One of the challenges is implementing these tools and services on a larger, more comprehensive scale. Can you share with us – what are some challenges that children, young adults, and individuals face when seeking mental health treatment – and how is Emory mitigating these challenges to provide access?”
